Fellow Lightning Sailors!
Though “Evolution Sails” may be a new name to many Lightning sailors, the people who stand behind this exciting brand are long-time Lightning competitors and sailmakers. Our team has amassed a resume of numerous regatta victories, including North American, Midwinter and Regional Championships over the past 45 years.
Greg Fisher, Karl Felger and Stephen Antworth have long been recognized as those representatives whose focus is to ensure that their customers not only receive the finest and fastest sails available, but also the personal service and attention to help them meet their sailing goals.
OUR ‘NEW’ SAIL DESIGNS
Quite frankly, while our designs are new, they are in fact the evolution of the Fisher designs Lightning sailors have been using to win regattas for almost 36 years. They are the result of tedious sail testing coupled with our latest thoughts and experiences on what makes a Lightning sail faster and point higher.
OUR 2022 EVOLUTION Lightning SAILS
Our updated sail designs for 2022 reflect the result of extensive speed testing and racing. Our input and development involved some of the very best Lightning sailors in the class. We tested an array of the latest fabrics from the best cloth manufacturers in the world to be sure we chose the best fabrics, and we are confident our sails are both durable and fast.
As our upwind sails are simply the evolution of the Fisher designs Lightning sailors have been using for years, the Fisher tuning and trim guides developed by Matt and Greg Fisher that have been so successful for years, are still relevant for the new Evolution Lightning main and jib. But we still have compiled the most comprehensive and descriptive 2022 Evolution Sails Lightning tuning guide ever… 11 pages!
Our race ready Full-Radial spinnaker is built from AirX 600, a fabric that has been proven to be both fast and durable. It is relatively flat across the head for more projected area and fuller, more powerful in the lower sections for the most power. This spinnaker especially excels downwind but still has the shape to perform on the windy reaches!

Our mission is to reconnect the sailor to the sailmaker, and we recognize the importance of being present, accessible and supportive of our Evolution customers. We have attended numerous events this season, including the North Americans in Cleveland, the Southern Circuit, and various district championships and we will continue to work hard to be sure all Lightning sailors have the support they need. We plan on completing 2021 and starting 2022 with a bang! Your Evolution Lightning reps will be present at the Wild Oyster, Kings Day and the Southern Circuit 2022, anxious to help any way they can!

“Go fast” tip from Greg Fisher:
USE LEECH TELLTALES FOR PERFECT Lightning JIB TRIM
Many one design classes are fortunate to have some nice guides to help set their jib trim properly. Some use tape marks on spreaders, splash rails, some just use tape marks on their jib sheets so they have a close ball park placement for sheet tension after every tack.
