Interlake Newsletter Fall 2021

Fellow Interlake sailors!

Though “Evolution” may be a new name to many Interlake sailors, the people who stand behind this exciting brand are long-time one-design competitors and sailmakers. We’ve enjoyed our relationship with the Interlake Class for over 40 years!

Greg Fisher, Ryan Kyle and Karl Felger have long been recognized as those representatives whose focus is to ensure that their customers not only receive the finest and fastest sails available, but also the personal service and attention to meet their sailing goals.

OUR ‘NEW’ SAIL DESIGNS

Quite frankly, our designs aren’t new, but in fact the evolution of Fisher design concepts sailors have been using to win regattas for almost 40 years. They are the result of our latest thoughts and experiences on what makes an Interlake go faster and point higher!

OUR 2022 EVOLUTION Interlake SAILS

We are pleased with the subtle changes that have helped our 2022 sails perform better in shifty, puffy lighter wind, as well as big breeze. A slightly deeper upper section on the mainsail, above the influence of the jib slot, helps with power and acceleration. Our jib, just slightly flatter than earlier designs, still carries a fuller, rounder entry for better acceleration and a wider, more forgiving groove to steer. We have tested an array of the latest fabrics from the best cloth manufacturers in the world to be sure we use the best fabrics, ideally picked for the Interlake main and jib, and we are confident our sails are both durable and fast.

Our new updated 2022 tuning guide will help you gain the most of your new Evolution main and jib.

Our race ready Full Radial spinnaker is built with AirX 600, a fabric that has been proven to be both fast and durable. This spinnaker excels on reaches and has the power to soak low on the runs.

2021 Interlake National Championship

Our Sails’ First Regatta! First and fourth overall!

The 2021 Sandusky Nationals were sailed in wide range of conditions. The windy first day faded to lighter, shiftier sailing by the end of the regatta, Sails that were able to “change gears” smoothly were key. Evolution Sails performed well and finished 1st and 4th in the talented fleet. In addition, 3 races were won by different teams with new Evolution Sails!

Our Commitment to Service & Support

Our mission is to reconnect the sailor to the sailmaker, and we recognize the importance of being present, accessible and supportive of our Evolution customers. We have attended numerous events this season, including the Nationals in Sandusky, and will continue to work hard to be sure all Interlake Sailors have the support they need.

about evolution sails

Over the past decade, Evolution Sails has grown from a stand-alone loft in Auckland New Zealand, to an internationally recognized brand for durable, high performance sails. They feature an expanding network of affiliate lofts in major markets, a proprietary membrane facility supplying an extensive list of independent lofts around the world, and a healthy stronghold in numerous areas in the sailmaking market.

Rodney Keenan, owner of Evolution Sails New Zealand, says, “From the outset, I took the view that we would not compromise on quality throughout our operation. We had one shot at getting this right and could not afford mistakes. That approach has paid off.” While Evolution Sails has established a strong name for itself in offshore and maxi yachts, clearly all Evolution sailmakers appreciate the importance of a strong one design presence and results, whether it’s a 70 ft grand prix racer or a 18 ft Interlake.

“Go fast” tips from Greg Fiser:

Use Leech Telltales for Perfect Jib Trim

Many one design classes are fortunate to have some nice guides to help set their jib trim properly. Some use tape marks on spreaders, splash rails, some just use tape marks on their jib sheets so they have a close ball park placement for sheet tension after every tack.

Other than marking the jib sheet, the Interlake is as fortunate to have an easy “mark”.
